Walt is the Candidate for Sheriff who can do it!

Walt Kuykendall is a farm boy from Iola, Kansas who grew up believing he could make a difference in his world. After serving with the Navy during the Vietnam War, he moved to Wichita in 1972. Once in Wichita, Walt joined the Wichita Police Department. Like most law enforcement officers he worked not only on the department but also many part-time jobs along with attending Wichita State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree and studied for a Masters in Administration of Justice. He is also a husband, father, and grandfather. Walt brings with him a vast amount of experience and knowledge.

Walt has a rich and diverse history in Law Enforcement including:

•29 years with the Wichita Police Department serving as a patrolman, master police officer, detective, lieutenant, Leader of critical Incident debriefing team, and directed the field officer training program.
•Chief of Police in Iola, Ks.
•Interim Police Chief in Valley Center, Ks.

Awards:

•Three Bronze Wreaths of Meritorious Services.
•Wichita Police Officer of the Year Award.
•Distinguished Service Citation - City of Wichita.
•Bronze Award of Valor - KS Police Chiefs Assoc.

Family Life:

•Married and a father of three children and grandfather of six-grandchildren.
•Enjoys gardening, farming, fishing and woodcarving.

Not only has Walt been an outstanding law enforcement officer, he has shown a true commitment to the community with:

•Twenty-seven years of fundraising for the Special Olympics through the Kansas Law Enforcement Torch Run.
•Thirteen year volunteer at the Sedgwick County Zoo.
•Nine year involvement with the Great Plains Woodcarving Club.
•Seven years of activity interaction with the Retired Wichita Police Officers Association.
